Day 1. Ulaanbaatar City & Tuul River Valley
Your travel team will meet you at the Chinggis Khaan International Airport and drive directly to the reserved hotel. After few minutes’ rest at your hotel, we will do a short drive to the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar city to visit Tuul River Willow Forest and a marshland where we will encounter some lovely birds including Azure Tit, Long-tailed Rosefinch, Azure-winged Magpie, Ruddy Shelduck, Demoiselle Crane, White-crowned Penduline Tit, White-cheeked Starling and probably Yellow-breasted Bunting and more birds at the marshland. In the evening, we will have a Welcome dinner at a fine traditional restaurant.

Day 2-3. Gorkhi-Terelj National Park
Gorkhi-Terelj (sometimes Terelj) national park occupies in the most southern end of the Siberian boreal forest (taiga). The typical habitat here comprises coniferous forest consisting mostly of larches, pines, spruces, and birches covering all aspects of the mountains. Willow trees or scrubs fill the valleys. Big rivers Tuul and Terelj run through the park. We will visit different area of the mountains where we will see Daurian Partridge, Great, Marsh, and Willow Tits, and Great and Lesser Spotted, Three-toed, Black, Grey-headed and White-backed Woodpeckers, Daurian Jackdaw, Hoopoe, and Dusky, Greenish, Yellow-browed Warblers, Taiga and Asian Brown Flycatchers, Eastern Buzzard, Red-throated Thrush, Red-flanked Bluetail, and Pine Bunting.

Day 4. Khovd Town
We will fly around 3 hours between Ulaanbaatar and Khovd. Upon arrival we will meet our local drivers and go directly to the clean and en suite hotel. Following short birding around plantations in the town, we will have dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 5-9. Bulgan River Basin
Some 400 km south west of the Khovd town, Bulgan sum is located on the bank of Bulgan River, the most south-western part of Mongolia. Valley of Bulgan River is a famous place for its abundant wildlife including birds. We will visit marshlands and high mountains in this area.
The interesting species will be Azure Tit, Great/Turkestan Tit (bokharensis), White-crowned Penduline Tit, Rosy & Common Starlings, White-winged Redstart, Mongolian Finch, Himalayan and Brown Accentors, Hume’s and Booted Warblers, White-headed and Masked Wagtails, White-headed Duck, Grey-necked Bunting, and others.
During the stay in the river basin, we will visit nomadic families who are the minority ethnic groups of Mongolia. We will spend almost one day for driving one way. The road is paved. So it will not be very exhausting.

Day 10. Khovd Town
Today will be whole day driving with occasional stops for some birds. In the evening we will arrive in Khovd town.

Day 11-12. Khar Us Lake and Jargalant Mountain
Based in Khovd town, we will do day trips to the lake Khar Us and Jargalant Mountain. Khar Us Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in western Mongolia, where we will see Pallas’s and Mongolian Gulls, Gull-billed Tern, Great Reed Warbler (western sub-species), Savi’s Warbler, Citrine Wagtail and White-headed Yellow Wagtail (leucocephala), possibly Bluethroat, Common and Rosy Starlings, Pale Sand Martin (Riparia diluta), Dalmatian Pelican from long distance, White-headed Duck and Great White Egret etc.
Jargalant Khairkhan (or Jargalant) is a part of Altai High Mountains where we will can see many interesting species including Altai Snowcock, Chukar, Cinereous and Bearded Vultures, Lesser Kestrel, Mongolian Finch, Twite, Black Redstart, Pied Wheatear, Hume’s, Greenish, Sulphur-bellied Warblers, Lesser Whitethroat (blythi or minula), and Godlewski’s Bunting and many more.

Day 13. Hustai National Park
Following the flight to Ulaanbaatar from Khovd, we will drive to the famous Hustai National Park, the land of the Przewalski’s Wild Horses Equus ferus przewalskii. We will watch a video that tells the story of the horse’s reintroduction in this park since 1991. The most interesting birds will be Daurian Partridge, Golden and Steppe Eagles, Saker and Amur Falcons, Eurasian Hobby, Lesser and Common Kestrels, Cinereous and Himalayan Griffon Vultures, Isabelline Shrike, Mongolian and Asian Short-toed Larks, Pied and Isabelline Wheatears, Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush and Meadow Bunting.

Day 14. Ulaanbaatar city
Today we will drive back to the city. En route we will make occasional stops if some interesting species pop up along the road. When we get the city, we will directly drive to the hotel to check in. Shopping and city tour are possible. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner at a Mongolian traditional restaurant.

Day 15. Departure
Transfer to the Chinggis Khaan International Airport.
