THE FIRST NATIONAL BIRD FAIR-2011

 

Governmentaland non-governmental organizations, private sectors and people who love birds in most countries organize national bird fairs and festivals in order to celebrate, study and conserve wild birds.  

By the initiation of NUM’s Ornithological Laboratory and Mongolian Ornithological Society, and with the support of Oriental Nomads LLC, Mongolian Ornithological Society, Mongolian State University of Agriculture and other organizations, the first annual Mongolian national bird festival was successfully organized on September 10th and 11th of 2011 in Ulaanbaatar city.

More than 20 participants, including ornithologists and bird watchers from NUM’s Ornithological Laboratory, Mongolian Ornithological Society, Mongolian State University of Agriculture, Chinggis Khaan International Airport, Hustain Nuruu National Park, Natural History Museum of Mongolia, Oriental Nomads LLC, Ger to Ger, Selena Travel and Explore Mongolia participated in this fair.

The opening ceremony was organized at National University of Mongolia’s building 2, where participants were introduced to the objectives and goals of the fair, and had the chance to hear lectures and obtain new knowledge about birds of Mongolia, their status and conservation, bird watching and organizing bird watching trips.

The field trip of the bird fair was organized in Ulaanbaatar area and Terelj river valley, where we saw two birds very rare in Mongolia and other migratory birds. Please see our bird list from the field trip.

The participants and organizers concluded that this event should be organized nationally every year and internationally every 3 years, and should aspire to attract the interest and involvement of researchers, teachers, students, kids and bird watchers all over the country to make this event a well-known bird fair that everybody looks forward to.
